Clean Break

After months of agonizing over stupid iweb and its useless features, I’ve finally decided to leave once and for all. It’s not that Steve Job’s people created some colassally effed up program, I bet there are zillions of just marrieds and look what the stork dopped offs that have a load of photos that they want to package neatly and share with family. There are probably even more people with lives so interesting that they need whole sites to organize the interestingness. I’m just not one of them.

All I ever wanted was a lot of content and a little fluff. The whole website notion confused me. Why couldn’t I downsize to a mere page? Why the need for a welcome, about, photos, trips, blah, blah, endless blah pages? I hated it. I felt like my simple idea had turned into a stack of nesting dolls – the tops five being too big and bulky – hiding the real content. I longed for the oodles of text I got when I opened my friend’s blogs. So I went hunting. I settled on wordpress because I could preview the themes before I committed to a subscription. I needed to know that I wasn’t signing on to hello kitty and pink bubble theme hell.

I now feel down-sized. In a good way. I feel like Jared from subway suggests his audience will feel when choosing fresh over greasy and processed. I’m not overwhelmed. I feel good about my decision. No regret.

And I’ve joined flickr – as you can see from the sidebar. I’ll spare you another rant about iphoto and iweb. A thing that I didn’t anticipate about my flickr membership – I have found a community of fellow weirdos. No matter what you are interested in, you’ll find birds of a feather on flickr. When I can’t get a single person I know to admit that my rats are adorable, I open up my flickr account. There, I’m sure to find like-minded rodent lovers in the group “my rats have stolen my heart.” And they are sure to have posted some gushy comment under the photos of my pets. God bless the connected world.

  1. Looks great. So many pictures of you pets…terrific.

I agree with you that this is a step up from your last blog.

    Keep the posts coming.

  2. Jessie!!

Well, it’s your long lost 2nd cousin who’s waaaay up in the NorthEast now… what a different place it is up here!

Love your site… I know we don’t “talk” much, but I try to keep tabs on you all through Mom (Aunt Sandy).

    You’re all grown up!

Love the animals… are they all yours?

    Dawn

  3. Sister,

I think this new format is a great idea – everything you need, nothing you don’t! I just hope you didn’t trash all you’re old entries…
